Simple
Steps to Reduce Waste:
- Recycle,
recycle recycle…
Reduce the amount of trash you create:
- Reusable
cloth shopping bags
- Keep a
Ceramic coffee cup/drink cup at work. Some coffee shops give a discount
if you bring your own cup.
- Put
together a No Trash Travel Kit: reusable drinking cup, food storage container with lid, eating utensils and mesh produce
bag.
- Reusable water bottles. (2,000,000 plastic bottles
are thrown away every 5 minutes in the U.S.)
- Buy bulk food. ONF has a great bulk food/spice section and it’s more
economical than prepackaged food.
- Take
reusable containers shopping with you.
- Take
reusable containers to restaurants for doggy bag.
- Stop junk mail & catalogs.
- Return unwanted driveway phonebooks to company
- Reduce number of household cleansers
- Reduce number of personal products…..shampoos/conditioners/shaving
gel/lotions/bubble baths…..
- Wash & Reuse….ziplock bags, veggie bags
- Cloth Diapers (The average baby goes through 5,000 diapers before
being potty-trained. Diapers made up 3.4 million tons of waste, or 2.1 percent of U.S. garbage, in landfills in
1998. Nothing degrades well in a landfill)
- Compost yard & kitchen waste.
- Leave
the car at home…Car pooling/bus/walking/biking
- Use Rechargeable Batteries
- Put up a clothes line
