Charles R. Page, PhD, presented three lectures drawing on his experience as a scientist and academic administrator who
has lived and worked in Israel and the middle east for many years. As Vice President of Academic Affairs and Professor at
the Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies, Page has led numerous excavations in the holy land, concentrating on sites associated
with the ministry of Jesus, most recently at Capernaum and Bethsaida. In addition to his impressive scholarly credentials,
Page is an engaging speaker whose enthusiasm for his work is contagious.
Dr. Page shared his perspective on life in the holy land today and also addressed his work as an archeologist who seeks
to place the life of Jesus in a cultural and historical context.
A native of Tennessee, Charles Page is the author of several books, including The Land and the Book: An Introduction
to the World of the Bible (1992) and Jesus and the Land (1995), and numerous journal articles. His professional
home is The Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies, a not-for-profit ecumenical study center located in Jerusalem that offers
short-term study courses in Israel, Palestine Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, and Italy. Students from numerous colleges and
universities, churches, seminaries, and volunteer organizations have the opportunity to work on scientific archeological excavations
in the Holy Land under the direction of Jerusalem Center faculty.
