Farewell to the Cleghorns
Reception Honoring the Cleghorns
Sunday, August 9, 2026 • Parish Hall • 12:30 p.m.
On Sunday, August 9, St. Paul's will celebrate the ministry of Jack and Grace Cleghorn as they prepare to begin a new chapter in South Carolina. Jack has accepted a position as Choirmaster and Organist at the Basilica of St. Peter in Columbia, and Grace will join her family's bakery as it continues to grow.
Over the past nine years as Organist and Choirmaster, Jack has helped shape the musical and liturgical life of St. Paul's with extraordinary skill, creativity, and devotion. During her five years as Parish Chef and Kitchen Coordinator, Grace has offered generous hospitality and helped foster the warm, welcoming community that is a hallmark of our parish. Together, they have enriched countless lives through their faithful service, friendship, and love for this church.
Following the 11:00 a.m. service on August 9, the parish is invited to a reception in the Parish Hall to honor the Cleghorns, celebrate their ministry among us, and offer our gratitude and prayers as they begin this next chapter.
As Rector Evan Garner shared in his letter to the parish, the Cleghorns leave with our heartfelt thanks and every blessing. While we will miss them greatly, we give thanks for the many ways their ministry has strengthened St. Paul's and trust that the good work they have helped build will continue to bear fruit for years to come.
Grace's Grits
As only Grace could, she couldn't say farewell without sharing one more gift with the St. Paul's family—her recipe for the grits that have nourished so many parish gatherings over the years.
Grace's Grits
1 cup stone-ground grits
3 cups good chicken stock
1 cup heavy cream
Cook until the grits are thick and creamy. Stir in:
½ stick butter
½ cup milk
Salt and plenty of black pepper to taste
A pinch of red pepper flakes
And, as Grace reminds us, "The most important part: share them with the people you love."
