Film Screening: Gaza Ghetto (1984)

BBC

Tuesday, October 27 • 5:30–8 p.m.

Join Friends of Palestine and Becoming Beloved Community at St. Paul’s for a screening of Gaza Ghetto (1984), the first documentary film made in Gaza. The evening will include food, a screening of the film, and a question-and-answer session with the film’s director, Joan Mandell.

The 82-minute documentary offers an intimate portrait of Palestinian family life in Jabalia, the largest Palestinian refugee camp, alongside interviews with figures involved in the Israeli military occupation. Through these personal stories and candid conversations, the film explores the historical roots of the occupation and the realities shaping Palestinian life.

More than four decades after its release, Gaza Ghetto offers important historical context for understanding the ongoing conflict and invites viewers to consider the urgent questions of peace, justice, and human dignity.

Please join us for this opportunity to watch, reflect, and engage in conversation with the filmmaker.
