Exploring Housing and Homelessness in Our Community: UTO Study Group

St. Paul’s has received a grant from the United Thank Offering to support a new effort to examine and, ideally, help address issues related to housing and homelessness in Fayetteville and the region. One element of our successful proposal is a short-term, community-wide study group that will meet on four Sunday afternoons in late summer and early fall, leading up to a visit to St. Paul’s by Donald Whitehead, executive director of the National Coalition on Homelessness, on October 17–18.

The study group will bring together people from St. Paul’s and other churches, city government, New Beginnings, Arkansas Renters United, and other social service agencies. Parishioners and friends of St. Paul’s are warmly invited to be part of this important conversation.

The study group will meet from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s on August 23, September 6, September 20, and October 4. Tentative topics for the sessions will explore these questions:

  • Is there a housing crisis in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas?

  • What are various organizations currently doing to address housing issues and needs?

  • What are the current conditions regarding renters’ rights and eviction awareness in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas?

  • What are the possibilities for people to actually buy a home in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas?
