Monks & Mandalas
April 28 – May 2 • Parish Hall
St. Paul’s will host a special and sacred artistic offering from April 28 through May 2, as monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery create a traditional Tibetan sand mandala in the Parish Hall. This ancient practice, known as dul-tson-kyil-khor, is a form of prayer expressed through art, embodying themes of compassion, healing, and the interconnectedness of all life.
Over the course of several days, the monks will carefully place millions of grains of colored sand to form an intricate and highly symbolic design. Each element of the mandala follows a precise spiritual tradition, creating a work of art that is both visually stunning and deeply meaningful.
All are invited to attend the opening ceremony on April 28 at 12:30 p.m. and the closing ceremony on May 2 at 2:30 p.m. These moments frame the creation and completion of the mandala, offering a deeper glimpse into its spiritual significance.
Throughout the week, you are also welcome to stop by the Parish Hall during office hours to observe the mandala as it takes shape. Watching the process unfold offers a unique opportunity for quiet reflection and engagement with a centuries-old spiritual practice.
