Cherokee Trail of Tears Fayetteville Pilgrimage Part 1, organized by the Becoming Beloved Community of St. Paul’s, will begin 2:30 pm May 16, 2026 (Saturday). Leave with a group from St. Paul’s at 2pm to walk to downtown square OR meet us at the south end of the West Side of the Square at 2:30 pm. Pilgrimage tour will be led by renowned Fayetteville historian Jerry Hogan, leading us to nearby local historic sites related to The Trail of Tears, beginning at the Nelson Orr plaque on the south end of the West Side of the Square. Other sites in this tour: Sophia Sawyer’s Fayetteville Female Seminary ( for Cherokee girls), and the historic Ridge House - Fayetteville’s oldest standing home - accompanied by Rebecca Luebker, a direct descendant of the Ridges.
