St. Paul’s Warming Shelter Ministry Training
Creating spaces where people feel safe, respected, and welcomed is at the heart of our Warming Center ministry. On Saturday, February 14, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. in the parish hall, volunteers and community partners are invited to a Warming Center training led by Solomon Burchfield, focused on trauma-informed care and de-escalation practices.
This training will explore how trauma shows up in the lives of people who are unhoused and how those experiences can affect behavior, communication, and trust. Together, participants will learn practical ways to respond with clarity and compassion—shaping environments, conversations, and expectations in ways that support safety for everyone involved.
Solomon will also guide participants through trauma-informed approaches to managing difficult situations, building rapport, and responding to moments of conflict with calm, grounded de-escalation strategies. The session will be interactive and include discussion and video resources, offering tools that are immediately applicable in Warming Center settings and beyond.
All who serve—or are interested in serving—are encouraged to attend, including partners from neighboring congregations. Advance registration is requested.
