February 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple, which takes place 40 days after Christmas. It is also called the Purification of Mary or Candlemas. We will explore how all of these different titles stem from a brief story in Luke’s Gospel, and how they have played out in the liturgy and life of the church from the medieval period until today.
